PROGRAMME
Departure at 07:00*.
Arrival at Agrigento, meeting with the local guide, and visit to the splendid “Valley of the Temples”, a fantastic historic testimony of Ancient Greece’s presence in this area. Agrigento’s archaeological site has been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1997. The remains of the Greek City, and in addition to the subsequent Punic Roman Period, the imposing Doric Temples (the temple of Hera Lacinia, destroyed in 406 B.C. by Carthusians, the Temple of Concordia, which has the best state of preservation due to its transformation into a Christian temple, and the Temple of Heracles, the oldest one in the entire valley), the agora, the necropolis of Fragapane and the snaking subterranean aqueducts form the wealth of this site which reaches about 1300 hectares in size.
We’ll proceed through the Scala Dei Turchi (Stairs of the Turks or Turkish Steps), one of the most famous Sicilian sites, considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches of our island, a fascinating place where centuries of rain and wind sculpted a natural staircase, used as a set for scenes from “Malèna”, “Commissario Montalbano” and the new Giorgio Armani commercial. At the Scala dei Turchi, after admiring the breathtaking view, there will be some spare time to have lunch and swim at the foot of this magnificent cliff-side.
Return to the hotel in the afternoon.
